Top army sources on Monday said, “Pakistan Army has been informed through established communication channels to take over the bodies of the hostile Pakistani nationals.”
The development relates to an incident that took place at about 1.20 pm on Sunday, when five to six Pakistani armed intruders crossed the LoC and fired on an army patrol in Sunderbani sector of Jammu region. Three army soldiers were killed and another suffered injuries in the “unprovoked cross border action” by Pakistan. During the retaliatory action, two intruders were also killed. “The intruders were wearing combat uniform. However, their identity could not be ascertained,” explained sources.
The army says that since the Director General of Military Operations talks with Pakistan on May 29, it has been maintaining “utmost restraint to uphold the ceasefire along the LoC, despite regular provocative actions from across”. The army, however, adds that the Pakistan Army has been vigorously attempting to send terrorists across the LoC into India. “Since May 30, 2018, seven infiltration bids have been eliminated by the Indian Army in which 23 terrorists have been killed,” said sources.
Sources said that there is a large concentration of terrorists in launch pads based across the LoC and are desperate to infiltrate before the onset of snow. “A stern warning has been conveyed to the Pakistan Army to restrain the terrorists operating from its soil,” said sources.
The incident comes in the backdrop of Northern Army Commander Lt Gen Ranbir Singh last week stating that the situation along the LoC remains fragile, because of attempts by Pakistan to continue to push infiltrators. Explaining a “winter strategy”, Singh said that the army is changing its deployment this year.
He also added that there is no change in terrorist infrastructure across the LoC in Pakistan Occupied Kashmir after Imran Khan became Pakistan’s Prime Minister. Even the previous Border Security Force Director General K K Sharma, before his retirement last month, had said this. But added that a first Border Action Team (BAT) incident along the International Border that killed a BSF Head Constable Narender Singh in September had taken place after Khan came to power. Reports suggest that Sunday’s incident was also a BAT action. A BAT comprises of Pakistani soldiers and terrorists to carry out cross border attacks.
