Russia has begun the delivery of the S-400 Triumf surface-to-air missile system to India. The missile system will give a major boost to India’s capabilities in air defence, but the $5.4-billion deal has become a bone of contention in India-US bilateral ties. India could face sanctions under the Countering America’s Adversaries Through Sanctions Act (CAATSA) that penalises nations or companies dealing with Iran, North Korea and Russia. Till now, the US has remained undecided on whether to give a waiver to India. So, will this deal affect the future of Indo-US relations? Will the US impose sanctions on India? We spoke exclusively with former diplomat PS Raghavan.
