As this year marks the 20th anniversary of the Kargil war, the Indian Army will be celebrating it by releasing a calendar as a tribute to the soldiers who lost their lives. The theme for the celebration is “Remember-Rejoice-Renew” which means “Remember the martyrs, Rejoice in the Victory and Renew the pledge for the future!!”. As a build up to the celebration in July this year, the first curtain raiser is the New Year Calendar, which is a collector’s item. The calendar also showcases the sequence of the events during the Kargil war with photographs of soldiers. On July 26, 1999, India successfully took command of the high outposts, which had been lost to Pakistani intruders. The war was fought for more than 60 days. During the Kargil war, 26 officers were killed and 66 injured, while 527 soldiers were killed and 1,363 injured while protecting borders of the country. On July 26, 1999 when Indian army won the war, it named it as ‘Vijay Divas’.
