An ambush of an Assam Rifles patrol unit in Mon claimed two lives and wounded four on May 25. It occurred around 1:20 pm today at a location between Tobu and Ukha.
As per Assam Rifles sources, an IED was triggered at a location some 4km north of Tobu by “suspected underground cadres” as a team of 44AR soldiers were moving from Tobu to Ukha to relieve another team taking part in an operation in the area.
In the resultant firefight, two AR troopers were killed and four wounded, the sources said. The deceased were identified as Naib Subedar Dina Nath Ram and Rifleman GD Kalidas Sharma.
The injured were evacuated to a military hospital in Jorhat, Assam. The nature of injury was stated to be non-fatal.
“There are no details, so far, on casualty on the other side,” the sources said, while adding that dense jungle foliage was making search operation quite difficult.
No organisation has claimed responsibility for the attack yet.
Meanwhile, Nagaland State Deputy Chief Minister, Y Patton, condemned the attack on security personnel and directed the Nagaland Police to investigate and bring the perpetrators to justice. He also expressed condolence to the family of the slain soldiers and speedy recovery to the injured.
