A civilian, an Armyman and a militant were killed in separate encounters that broke out Thursday morning in Jammu and Kashmir. The civilian was killed in a crossfire in Srinagar, while the Army man and the militant were killed in a gunbattle in South Kashmir’s Anantnag district. Internet services have been suspended in Srinagar and other adjoining areas.
Separately, there is an ongoing encounter in Budgam district. SP Budgam Tejinder Singh said, “There are two houses and a mosque at the site (of the encounter). The fire is coming from a mosque.”
According to senior police officials, security forces launched a search operation in Srinagar’s Noorbagh area this morning after receiving information of the presence of militants in the vicinity. The search operation turned into an encounter after militants opened fire on the forces, the official added.
“The civilian was injured in the crossfire. He later succumbed,” DIG Central Kashmir V K Birdi said, adding that the firing has stopped and search operations are underway in the area.
On the Anantnag encounter, SSP Anantnag Altaf Khan told The Indian Express that one militant was killed. “The encounter has ended,” he added.
