THREE days after a Special Police Officer (SPO) of J&K Police, posted with a PDP MLA, fled with seven weapons of his colleagues from the legislator’s official residence in Srinagar, a picture of him carrying rifles along with four militants has gone viral.
SPO Adil Bashir, a resident of Zainapora in Shopian, fled with seven AK-47s and one pistol from PDP MLA Aijaz Ahmad Mir’s residence in Srinagar’s Jawahar-nagar area on Friday. Mir is the legislator from Wachi constituency in Shopian, South Kashmir.
Now, two pictures have surfaced on social media. One shows Bashir holding two rifles and four militants, including Hizbul Mujahideen ‘commander’ Zeenat-ul-Islam, carrying five rifles. The second photo shows seven AK-47 rifles on the ground, but no militant is present in the picture. Until Monday evening, there was no official confirmation whether the rifles in the picture were the ones that were stolen from the MLA’s residence.
J&K DGP Dilbagh Singh on Saturday had said that investigation had found that the SPO was “connected with militants”.
Meanwhile, the intelligence bureau and Punjab Police picked up two students — Ghazi Ahmed Malik and Mir Imran Ahmed — of Aryans College following raids on Sunday. One of them was released Monday.
