North Korea launched short-range ballistic missile – US confirms

The official Korean Central News Agency confirmed Monday the missile was a Pukguksong-2, a medium-to-long range ballistic missile also launched in February. The missile flew about 500 kilometers (310 miles) and reached a height of 560 kilometers (350 miles) Sunday before plunging into the Pacific Ocean. North Korea is playing nasty or clever, its high time to dig into the power-play! The US today confirmed that North Korea has test-launched another ballistic missile and said it is committed to the security of its allies in the neighborhood.

The US Pacific Command (PACOM) said the missile was fired near Wonsan, on North Korea’s eastern coast. The missile was tracked for six minutes until it landed in the Sea of Japan,” it said in a statement. “We are working with our inter-agency partners on a more detailed assessment. We continue to monitor North Korea’s actions closely.”

The statement affirmed the American commitment to stand behind Japan and South Korea, and said the missile was never a threat to North America. The United States government is aware. The President has been briefed,” a spokesman of the National Security Council, White House said.

The US Pacific command however said that the ballistic missile was tested and landed in the sea of Japan, although the test was posed as a no threat to South Korea but what future holds and what North Korea is planning to do next with the showcasing of its weaponry, only time will tell!
