Ponda: Dilip Bethkikar and his team at Ponda Range Forest Office under guidance of Deputy Conservator of Forest Kuldeep Sharma yesterday laid trap in forest area of Chikan Gal Shiroda and arrested three poachers Ulhas Velip (38) Chandrakant Velip (37) both from Paddy Cancona and Gurudas Gaonkar(51) from Shiroda and seized 7 kg meat of two common Palm Civet , one locally made gun and poaching weapons from them in reserve Forest of Shiroda Jungle.
According to RFO Dilip Bethkikar the team led by him Ramnath Gaonkar, Vijay Shirodkar and Jaydeep Naik seized the meat and arrested the accused along with gun yesterday midnight in forest area. He said the Palm Civet is Sheduled two animal. If offence is proved there is punishment of imprisonment for 7 years with Rs 25000 penalty. The Forest Officials said killing offence is offence as also possessing arm. There would be likely two offence one under Wild Life Act and second under possesing arms.The case with respect to possessing of gun will be handed over to Ponda Police for further investigation under arms and ammunition act.
