Bengal STF takes over probe of Chinese national arrested from India-Bangladesh border

The Special Task Force (STF) of West Bengal Police took over the probe of the Chinese national, who was apprehended along the India-Bangladesh international border at Malda district last week.

As per sources, the individual had a valid Chinese passport when he was apprehended in the early hours on Thursday.

According to BSF sources, the Chinese national was intercepted around the border area in Malda, West Bengal. When troops questioned him, he didn’t give a satisfactory reply. Immediately, agencies concerned and local police were informed.

A Chinese passport bearing a Bangladeshi visa, a laptop, and three mobile phone SIM cards were found on the man who was identified by security officials as Junwei Han.

“On June 10, a Chinese national was intercepted by BSF troops in area of Malda, West Bengal. Interview of the individual is presently underway by concerned agencies,” a senior BSF official told India Today TV.

As per BSF, Han Junwei, admitted during the interrogation that he reached Dhaka on a business visa and stayed there with a Chinese friend.

On June 8, he reached Sona Masjid in Bangladesh’s Chapai Nawabganj district and stayed in a hotel there. On 10 June, he was trying to enter the Indian territory when he was caught by the BSF troops.

The Lucknow Anti-Terror Squad (ATS) had registered a case against Junwei, due to which he was not able to get an Indian visa in China. However, he managed to get a visa from Bangladesh and Nepal and came to India.

A local court on June 12 remanded Han Junwei in police custody for six days.
