A joint armed forces operation in Anantnag district on Friday led to the death of a Hizb-ul Mujahideen militant likely to be involved in the killings of BJP workers and a policeman in Jammu & Kashmir.

The police, Army and CRPF were in Mominhall village of Arwani in Bijbehara after a specific input on presence of a militant in the area.

Officials said Shahzad Ahmad Seh, a resident of Kulga, was trapped during the search operation. He was given several opportunities to surrender, but instead shot at the forces and was killed in the resultant exchange of fire, said officials. The police recovered arms and ammunition from his possession. Seh is said to be involved in the killing of J&K Police Inspector Mohammad Ashraf Bhat and three BJP workers in October 2020, and a BJP sarpanch and his wife in August 2021.
